things I like, you might like. vol 2

C’mon C’mon is the third feature from Mike Mills, it’s free to watch on Beama (all you need is a library card).

There’s so much to love about this films’ creative choices, I’ll list 3 but I could list another 20.

Firstly weaving a narrative that is based on the film makers own experiences of being a parent along with documentary elements, I’ve not seen this done so well before, its a brave choice because it really could have not worked (The Warren Beatty movie ‘Reds’ does this well too but has a very different approach). Secondly, the score, you feel it, it’s subtle but you feel it. Lastly (of course) the cinematography, Robbie Ryan, lighting simply and effectively, reminding me of the late Harris Savides.

My musical trip for the week is of course the soundtrack by The National (feat Feist).
